U.S. natural gas production reached a new record in 2025

U.S. marketed natural gas production reached a new record in 2025, growing by 5.3 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) to average 118.5 Bcf/d, according to our latest Natural Gas Monthly. Three regions—Appalachia, Permian, and Haynesville—accounted for 67% of the total marketed gas production in the United States in 2025 and for 81% of the growth last year.

Fossil generation could rise with faster-than-expected growth in data center power demand
Fossil generation could rise with faster-than-expected growth in data center power demand

Electricity demand has been rising steadily since 2020 after more than a decade of little change. Between 2020 and 2025, U.S. electricity demand, as measured by net energy for load, grew about 1.7% annually compared with 0.1% annual growth between 2005 and 2019. Electricity use by data centers is driving the electricity demand growth. Continued development of these large computing facilities and growth from expanded industrial use of electricity are likely to continue driving growth in U.S. electricity demand in the near term. In this analysis, we explore the potential impact of faster-than-expected electricity demand growth, while assuming the same future generating capacity as the February Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO).

Annual U.S. crude oil exports decrease for first time since 2021
Annual U.S. crude oil exports decrease for first time since 2021

Annual U.S. crude oil exports in 2025 decreased 3% from 2024, the first annual decrease since 2021. Exports decreased to Europe and the Asia and Oceania region, the two top regional destinations for U.S. crude oil. Despite fewer crude oil exports, U.S. crude oil imports decreased by more. Overall, U.S. net imports of crude oil—total imports minus total exports—decreased from 2.5 million barrels per day (b/d) in 2024 to 2.2 million b/d in 2025.

U.S. exports of major transportation fuels in 2025 were about the same as in 2024
U.S. exports of major transportation fuels in 2025 were about the same as in 2024

In 2025, exports of major petroleum-based transportation fuels, including distillate fuel oil, motor gasoline, and jet fuel, averaged 2.4 million barrels per day (b/d), about the same as the previous year. Distillate fuel oil, commonly sold as diesel, accounts for more than half of these exports, and the entirety of the annual decrease. Exports of gasoline and jet fuel increased slightly in 2025 over 2024. As in previous years, Mexico was the most popular destination by volume for all three fuels, especially gasoline.

U.S. electricity generation in 2025 hit a record, again
U.S. electricity generation in 2025 hit a record, again

U.S. electricity net generation reached a record in 2025 based on data from our Electricity Data Browser. In 2025, the United States generated 4.43 terawatthours (TWh) of electricity, up 2.8% from 2024 generation, which previously had been the highest annual total in our Monthly Energy Review Data Browser dataset dating back to 1949.

To set up Appium on your notebook, you’ll need to meet the following requirements:

  1. Operating System:

    • Appium supports macOS, Linux, and Windows operating systems. Ensure your notebook runs one of these.
  2. Node.js and NPM:

    • Install Node.js (version in the SemVer range ^14.17.0 || ^16.13.0 || >=18.0.0).
    • NPM (Node Package Manager) is usually bundled with Node.js, but you can upgrade it independently. Make sure your NPM version is >= 8.
  3. Appium Installation:

    • Install Appium globally using NPM:
      npm install -g appium

  4. Appium Server:

    • Start the Appium server by running:
      appium

    • If you see output like “[Appium] Welcome to Appium v2.0.0,” the server is up and running12.
  5. Additional Dependencies:

    • To automate a specific platform (e.g., Android or iOS), refer to the documentation of the corresponding Appium driver(s) for any additional dependencies.
    • Typically, you’ll need the developer toolchain and SDKs specific to the platform you’re testing1.

Remember to adapt the installation steps to your specific environment. Happy testing! 🚀📱

The disk space requirements for installing Appium, Node.js, and npm are relatively modest:

  1. Appium:

    • By itself, Appium is lightweight and doesn’t have significant disk space requirements.
    • It can even run in resource-constrained environments like Raspberry Pi, as long as Node.js is available.
    • No specific disk space quota is needed for Appium alone.
  2. Node.js and npm:

    • Node.js and npm are essential for running Appium.
    • The installation of Node.js and npm doesn’t consume much disk space.
    • However, ensure you have enough space for other development tools and dependencies.

In summary, a few gigabytes of free space should suffice for installing Appium, Node.js, and npm on your notebook. Happy testing! 🚀📱
